He/ she will also work closely with Centre partners to target and assist Indigenous clients in urban settings. He/she will also work closely with NFC personnel and external agencies to provide counselling, intervention, assistance, support, referral to Indigenous clients who are street involved.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in community work with agencies and services relevant to the at-risk indigenous community or a diploma in the field of human sciences (social work, psychology, sociology);
- Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and the effects of intergenerational trauma;
- Experience in individual and group intervention;
- Demonstrated ability to respond to crisis situations;
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Must be capable of manual labor;
- Experience with Indigenous clients and of urban Indigenous issues;
- Motivated and enthusiastic team player;
- Good planning, problem-solving and liaison skills;
- Strong teamwork skills and work ethic;
- Reliable, punctual, honest, professional;
- Highly flexible and adaptable;
- Diplomacy, tact and judgement;
- Good oral and written communications;
- Must be available to work flexible schedule days and evenings Monday through Friday;
- Québec Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (an asset);
- Bilingualism (English and French) written and spoken is required in this position; an Indigenous language is an asset;
- First Aid / CPR / ASIST certification an asset;
Responsibilities
- Support municipal intervention workers who work with people experiencing homelessness and those at-risk;
- The team of intervention workers would therefore be responsible for the provision of direct services, information, referral, awareness, orientation, support, and general assistance to Indigenous people who are located in the Greater Montreal area;
- Accompany people and facilitate social cohabitation in public space and in the metro;
- Engage with Indigenous people experiencing homelessness or imminent risk to ensure they are informed of the resources and services available in the community;
- The intervention team will support the police officers with regard to culturally appropriate interventions and concerted solutions;
- Maintain client contact sheets and case management tracking;
- Actively participate in team debriefing sessions, staff meetings, etc.;
- Maintain service statistics and journals, record keeping, reporting, filing, photocopying;
- Other duties/responsibilities as delegated by Services Coordinator or Executive Director
Working environment/hours
Full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday, days and evenings (may vary). Attendance at events, meetings, training, andworkshops is mandatory.
