Community Intervention Worker (Street patrol)

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing direct integrated services and support to Indigenous clients. They will also work closely with NFCM personnel and external agencies to provide counseling, intervention, assistance, support, referral to Indigenous clients who are street involved.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College degree or 2 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Strong knowledge of urban Indigenous issues and the effects of intergenerational trauma;
  • Experience in individual and group intervention;
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to crisis situations;
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player;
  • Good planning, problem-solving and liaison skills;
  • Strong teamwork skills and work ethic;
  • Reliable, punctual, honest, professional;
  • Highly flexible and adaptable;
  • Diplomacy, tact and judgment;
  • Good oral and written communications;
  • Must be available to work flexible schedule days and evenings Monday through Friday;
  • Quebec Class 5 Driver’s License with acceptable driving record (an asset);
  • Bilingualism (English and French); an Indigenous language is a strong asset;
  • First Aid / CPR / ASSIST certification an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide on-site or mobile direct services and emotional support to homeless or at-risk Indigenous members to address urgent needs;
  • Ensure that street involved Indigenous people have an awareness of direct integrated services provided by the NFCM and facilitate services to those who may not use the Day Center;
  • Work in collaboration with other services and programs provided by the NFCM to appropriately meet the needs of community members accessing the organization;
  • Respond to emergency situations and intervene during crisis situations;
  • Write security and incident reports;
  • Preparation and serving of food and beverages for the day centre and the street patrol as well as tracking/maintaining all inventory, loading van, and distribution to Indigenous populations;
  • Participation in team meetings;
  • Collaborate to maintain participants contact sheets and case management tracking;
  • Actively participate in team debriefing sessions, staff meetings, etc.;
  • Participate in statistics and journals, record keeping, reporting, filing, as needed;
  • Assist with the writing of the program’s reports;
  • Act as a member providing help, guidance, encouragement and feedback to their colleagues to help them grow and succeed in their professional development.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/ HOURS

The work schedule is full-time (37.5 hours per week), Monday through Friday, but may vary periodically based on organizational needs. Attendance at events, meetings, training, and workshops may be mandatory.

Salary and benefits

30.86$ per hour (Group 3), as per the Collective Labour Agreement.
