Operations support worker

The Operations Support Worker plays a vital role in maintaining the smooth day-to-day functioning of the organization’s facilities and shared spaces. Key responsibilities include supporting supply management, moving equipment and materials, performing light maintenance and cleaning tasks, and ensuring spaces are ready for various programs and services. The role also provides support to kitchen operations during high-demand periods, such as assisting with basic food preparation and cleaning.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma required; post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent work experience providing the necessary skill set to perform essential job functions (asset).
  • Certification in Hygiene and Food Safety, Manual Material Handling, First Aid and CPR (asset).
  • Able to communicate in both English and French; knowledge of an Indigenous language (asset).
  • Experience in a facilities support, maintenance, kitchen, or food service environment (asset).
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor on a daily basis (lifting, bending, carrying heavy loads of 20–50 lbs)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly, safely, and effectively in a dynamic and evolving operational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and maintain efficiency in a fast-paced setting.
  • Motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Flexible and adaptable to varying operational needs and working conditions (indoor/outdoor).
  • Culturally competent regarding the values, traditions, and belief systems of Indigenous peoples (asset).

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manual handling tasks, including lifting, transporting, and organizing kitchen supplies, food donations, furniture, and equipment (20–50 lbs).
  • Support the organization, inventory, and restocking of supplies in kitchen and storage areas.
  • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance tasks to support the upkeep of common areas, rooftop garden, outdoor storage, and operational spaces.
  • Set up, maintain, and take down areas for meal services, meetings, or events, including moving furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with food preparation tasks: basic preparation of simple recipes, reheating or assembling pre-prepared food, and other related kitchen duties as required.
  • Wash dishes, clean kitchen surfaces, and maintain the cleanliness and organization of kitchen and serving areas.
  • Ensure proper handling, sorting, and disposal of waste materials, in compliance with hygiene, health, and safety standards
  • Respond to urgent operational needs as they arise, ensuring safety and operational continuity.
  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, clients, and visitors.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Part-time position (20 hours per week)
  • Unionized position — 29,28$/h (Group 1)
